Gitex 2014

The leading annual technology event in the Middle East, Gitex, was held from 12th to the 16th October 2014 at the DWTC. Once again, it was a highly successful and well-attended event for technology enthusiasts, businesses, and government organizations with focus on Cloud, Big Data, Mobile, Digital Marketing, hardware innovations, and software applications. Several government departments showcased smart technologies and international and local exhibitors demonstrating innovations in cloud, mobile and big data solutions.

Apple Pay Launched

Starting Monday 20th October 2014, users of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, will be able to be able to buy things with just the tap at more than 220,000 retail locations in the U.S. By adding their debit or credit card information into Apple’s Passbook users will be able to automatically and securely pay using their iPhones. Apple Pay will use the TouchID sensor to securely confirm the payment and all three leading credit card issuers – Visa, Mastercard and American Express – have backed Apple Pay.

Could the Apple SIM be the death of operator SIM cards?

At the new Apple iPad launch event, the surprise announcement was the Apple SIM: a special SIM card that lets you switch between carriers with the tap of a button, which could just mean the end of the SIM as we know it. Apple now makes it possible for consumers to choose their carrier side by side on the same device, bringing a new twist to Apple and carrier relationship. For now it may only a problem for U.S. carriers to worry about but we will have to wait and watch on what happens once these iPads arrive in our markets.
